TiO2 photocatalysis

It is known that TiO2 exhibits good photocatalytic properties which could be used in various commercial applications such as water and air purification or photo-induced biodegradation of microbes. TiO2 occurs in nature in the form of three crystal polymorphs: anatase, brookite and rutile. For photocatalytic applications only anatase and rutile are of interest, however anatase shows greater phot...

Spectroscopy and concentration quenching of the infrared emissions in Tm-doped TeO2-TiO2- Nb2O5 glass

In this work, we report the optical properties of Tm ions in tellurite glasses (TeO2-TiO2-Nb2O5) for different Tm 3+ concentrations ranging between 0.05 and 1 wt%. Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters have been determined to calculate the radiative transition probabilities and radiative lifetimes of excited states. The stimulated emission cross-sections of the infrared emissions at 1487 nm and 1800 ...

TiO2 Photocatalysis and Diamond Electrode

This paper presents a simple process for making tellurium (Te) nanoand microtubes of widely varying dimensions with the multiscale processing (MSP) technique. In this process, the Te metal was placed in a borosilicate glass reaction vessel and a fuse quartz substrate was added. Th vessel was evacuated and seal d unde vacuum with a torch. Then, the vessel was heated under a temperatur gradient w...

Demystifying EPR: A Rookie Guide to the Application of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Spectroscopy on Biomolecules

Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, also known as Electron Spin Resonance(ESR) especially among physicists, is a strong and versatile spectroscopic method forinvestigation of paramagnetic systems, i.e. systems like free radicals and most transition metalions, which have unpaired electrons. The sensitivity and selectivity of EPR are notable andintriguing as compared to other spec...

Carbon-modified TiO2 for photocatalysis

Here we present a method to produce TiO2 nanocrystals coated by thin layer of graphitic carbon. The coating process was prepared via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) with acetylene used as a carbon feedstock with TiO2 used as a substrate. Different temperatures (400°C and 500°C) and times (10, 20, and 60 s) of reaction were explored. The prepared nanocomposites were investigated by means of tran...
